These gold leaf rolls can be used to gild a large area quickly. Interior designers and picture-framing professionals use them. They can also turn a plain wall into a metallic finish to provide a luxurious home, restaurant, or office environment.

How do you apply a gold roll on the wall?

Open the roll and start at the top; place the first 5cm on the wall, then open the roll down to the floor, but avoid touching the floor. Make sure the gold roll is perfectly vertical, and then use a paint roller starting from the top and going down. The paint roller must not touch the adhesive; ensure that the roller stays on the gold, pressing down to ensure all the gold is stuck on the wall. Cut the copper at the bottom where the wall ends.

To apply the second sheet, again start at the top, place the gold roll 1cm overlapping the first sheet that you just stuck, and follow the same method as you did with the first sheet till you finish the wall.

  • The gold roll is soft and fragile; do not pull it hard to avoid tearing it. If this happens, cut the gold roll’s torn area and start again.
  • The roll is 16cm wide; you can cut it to a specific width to avoid wasting gold leaf.
  • You need the Transfer Application Brush to apply for these gold roles.
  • The recommended gilding size for these leafs is Kolner Aqua Size or Kolner Permacoll, or Nazionale Mission, but you can also use any gilding size you have.
  • When using imitation metal leaf, it is best to wear Gilder’s Gloves to prevent your fingers from leaving moisture on the metal leaf.
  • Imitation gold leafs must be protected with varnish to avoid oxidization; use Kolner Leaf Protect.
  • Use the Gilder’s Mop to brush off the excess leafs and end up with a nice solid gilded surface.
