Gilder’s brush with natural wood handle. This soft wool brush is used to gently paint-like on the back of the transfer leaf to release the gold off the transfer paper. A standard brush might scratch the transfer paper, thus scratching the gold surface.
The brush is also used to paint-like over the gold leaf after it has adhered to the surface, forcing it to stick to the surface.
