Kolner Permacoll Size HA offers far more flexibility than oil sizes, which have long drying times and short working times. Permacoll Size HA dries within 15 to 30 minutes, depending upon the thickness and remaining porosity of the surface. Metal leaf can be applied hours or even days later.
Permacoll HA is designed to attain metallic surfaces that are not exposed to the weather or excessive wear. It is not burnishable with the Agate Stone Burnisher; instead, use Instacoll Tissue to polish the gilded work.
Permacoll Size is recommended as an adhesive for metal leaf on all non-porous surfaces, smooth or textured. Uses include preparing frames and decorating sets for theatre, film, window displays, and architectural ornaments.
Gilding with Permacoll Size:
- Ensure the surface is dust-free and clean.
- Brush the Permacoll size and wait for an hour or until the size becomes sticky. You now have 48 hours or even days to apply the gold leaf.
- Apply the gold leaf, with each leaf overlapping the previous one by 5-10mm.
- Use the Gilder’s wool brush to press down the gold leaf.
- Once you have fished placing all the gold leaf, you are now ready to buff the gold leaves and the redundant flakes/leaves with the Gilder’s mob/duster.
- Ensure that all the leafs are stuck well on the size.
- Use the Instacoll Tissue to polish the fished gilded surface.
- Permacoll Size is recommended as an adhesive for a metal leaf on all types of non-porous surfaces, smooth or textured; for absorbent surfaces, use Permacoll Sealer 123a.
- For interior applications only. The Permacoll red is perfect for imitation gold, silver and copper leafs.
- Permacoll is for both metal leafs and gold powder.
- Not for a high gloss finish.
- Usage: 100ml can be used for 1sqm of flat surface.
