Instacoll Activator for the Instacoll Base, indoor & outdoor. Use this gilding adhesive’s Activator to reactivate the dried surface. The activation is dry after a few minutes. After that, the treated surface is receptive to gold leaf for an hour. The adhesion occurs through pressure.
How to use the Instacoll Activator:
- Activate the dry and tackle the surface of the dry Instacoll Size with precision, using a Fiber Cloth or The Instacoll Tissue moistened with this Activator. Rub the moistened tissue across the gilding adhesive film that you have applied previously (and dried out) up to very thin and even size film results. This ‘film’ must be sparse, and drying results in less than 2 minutes. Now, you can apply gold leaf for another hour.
- Apply the transfer gold or silver leafs by pressing and rubbing with a cotton ball on the back of the transfer paper.
- Continued gilding always requires activating the next area. Overlapped activating onto a just-laid leaf enables a seamless gilded surface.
- Always let the Activator Size dry before applying the next leaf!
- After the entire surface is covered with the gold leaf, press and polish the whole surface with the Instacoll Tissue, especially the overlapping area.
- Now, rub the surface with the Gilder’s Cotton Ball in one direction to get a high-gloss gilding.
- Faults or missing areas can be filled using the above method again.
